What Will I Lose?
Can I install apps from outside the App Store on an iPhone?
For a typical iPhone user in the United States, installing third-party apps is not the same as downloading an Android APK. Apple's alternative app marketplace and web-distribution programs are currently available only in eligible regions, including the European Union, Japan, and Brazil, under additional conditions. The US App Store remains the normal consumer installation route.
What to do
- Before switching, list any Android apps you installed from APK files, F-Droid, or another app store.
- Search the iPhone App Store for equivalent apps and check whether their key functions are available.
- If you live in an eligible alternative-distribution region, review Apple's region, Apple Account, location, and software requirements before considering other sources.
- Check whether your employer or developer supplies an approved managed or testing build if that is relevant; do not treat that as general Android-style sideloading.
- Do not erase your Android phone until your essential apps have working iPhone replacements.
Limits and compatibility notes
Check this before relying on the answer
Alternative distribution depends on both the physical region and Apple Account region; it is not a universal iPhone setting. Availability and installation rules vary among the EU, Japan, and Brazil. Apple notarization does not make a third-party marketplace identical to the App Store. Do not change your account region merely to evade eligibility rules.
