Android → iPhone Get Used to It

How does iPhone back navigation differ from Android?

Unlike Android, iPhone does not provide one universal Back button or system-wide Back gesture that behaves identically in every app. You usually use the app’s own Back control; supported apps may also let you swipe from the left edge. The app switcher is for moving between apps, not for going back within one app.

What to do

  1. Look for a Back button, often at the upper-left corner, within the app.
  2. Where supported, try swiping inward from the left edge to return to the previous screen.
  3. To switch apps on a Face ID iPhone, swipe horizontally along the bottom edge.
  4. To view recently used apps, swipe up from the bottom and pause; on an iPhone with a Home button, double-click that button.

Limits and compatibility notes

Check this before relying on the answer The left-edge Back gesture is app-dependent. Do not promise Android-style universal back navigation or describe switching apps as the same action as going back.
