Can an iPhone show two apps side by side?

It depends on the iPhone. iPhone Duo supports Split View on its inner display, so two apps can run side by side; Apple also documents app pairs and, in supported cases, two windows of the same app. Other iPhone models do not have this general two-app Split View. Picture in Picture remains a separate option for supported video and FaceTime.

What to do

  1. If you are considering iPhone Duo, identify the two apps you use together and check how each behaves in Split View.
  2. On another iPhone model, use the App Switcher or Picture in Picture for supported video rather than expecting two full apps side by side.
  3. If you rely on a Galaxy Fold pop-up window or a specific multi-window layout, compare that exact workflow before switching.

Limits and compatibility notes

Check this before relying on the answer Apple confirms Duo Split View, app pairs and supported same-app windows, but this does not establish that every third-party app has a layout optimized for the inner display. Samsung Multi window and Duo Split View are not identical workflows. SwitchHelp has not device-tested individual app combinations.
