What Will I Lose?
Does the physical SIM or eSIM matter when switching between iPhone and Android?
Yes. iPhone Duo is eSIM-only worldwide, so you cannot move a physical SIM card into it. Other iPhone and Android models vary. An Android-to-iPhone eSIM transfer may work directly with a supported carrier and compatible devices, including after iPhone setup; otherwise your carrier may need to activate the plan. Moving a phone number is separate from moving photos, chats and other data.

What to do
- Check the destination model, carrier lock and eSIM support before changing phones. For iPhone Duo, plan for eSIM rather than a physical SIM.
- Ask your carrier whether your Android device and plan support direct eSIM transfer or require carrier activation or a QR code.
- Keep the old phone available while activating the new one; on supported combinations, Apple also documents transfer from iPhone Settings after setup.
- Test a call, SMS and mobile data before erasing or trading in the old phone.
Limits and compatibility notes
Check this before relying on the answer
Direct Android-to-iPhone transfer depends on carrier, Android device and software compatibility. Apple lists specific participating carriers and requires a compatible Android phone; do not assume worldwide direct-transfer support. The old SIM may deactivate when the transfer succeeds. Data migration has separate setup requirements.
